The Department of Urology at the Dr Jan Biziel University Hospital No. 2 in Bydgoszcz is a university and research institution of the Collegium Medicum in Bydgoszcz of the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń. An entire range of procedures concerning the male genitourinary system and the female urinary tract are performed here. The key focus of the Department are oncological diseases and genitourinary reconstructive surgeries. The Department’s team excels in performing minimally invasive procedures through the daVinci surgical system as well as laparoscopic and endoscopic procedures. We have developed our own original surgical modifications such as laparoscopic radical prostatectomy, ureteropelvic junction obstruction repair and reconstructive surgeries of the lower urinary tract, including vesicovaginal and vesicorectal fistula repairs. Our team can use all cutting-edge devices available in modern urology, including the daVinci surgical system. The results of our surgeries are discussed in a number of published research reports and presented at domestic and international conferences. We share our knowledge and skills by organising symposiums, courses and workshops in urology.
The Department of Urology at the Dr Jan Biziel University Hospital No. 2 in Bydgoszcz has 24 beds and admits ca. 3,500 patients every year. Surgical procedures take place on a daily basis in three operating theatres adapted to systemic, laparoscopic, endoscopic and conventional open surgical procedures. The Department has the state-of-the-art equipment to be used in urologic surgeries. It provides all types of treatment for urologic conditions (daVinci surgical system, laparoscopes, lasers, and devices for the surgical treatment of urolithiasis to be used in such techniques as PCNL, URS, RIRS and ESWL). It has an entire range of devices and equipment for treating prostate hyperplasia, bladder cancer, urinary incontinence, etc. The Department has a daVinci surgical system and the state-of-the-art 4K laparoscopy system enabling the performance of any urologic surgical procedure. Patients come to the University Hospital Outpatient Clinic to have their follow-up visits. An emergency oncology team is a special section of the Outpatient Clinic, and patients diagnosed with prostate cancer can also use a helpline.
