Dear Colleagues,
We warmly invite you to Bydgoszcz for the Annual Symposium of the Northwestern Branch of the Polish Urological Association. The Symposium will take place on November 14–15, 2025. The meeting and accommodation venue will be the City Hotel in Bydgoszcz. The Symposium is organized by the Department of Urology at University Hospital No. 2 named after Dr. Jan Biziel in Bydgoszcz.
We are honored to once again host urologists in our city. The meeting will begin on Friday, November 14, in the morning with another edition of the practical course for young urology trainees – the Urology Boot Camp. The tradition of organizing urological courses and workshops by the team at Dr. Jan Biziel Hospital in Bydgoszcz has lasted for many years. This year, we celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Bydgoszcz Endoscopic Workshops (BWE), which have consistently prepared courses for urologists every year. It is worth recalling that the first laparoscopic workshops organized by BWE took place in Olsztyn in 2000. Today, young specialists continue this tradition by organizing events in Bydgoszcz in close cooperation with the European Association of Urology. In Bydgoszcz, we host E-BLUS (European Training in Basic Laparoscopic Urological Skills) laparoscopic courses, EST (Endoscopic Stone Treatment) courses, TURP-TURT courses, and of course the Urology Boot Camp – a course of the European School of Urology. Twenty-five years of tradition obliges us to continue.
On the same day, Friday, November 14, in the afternoon, there will be a residents’ session combined with interesting lectures by invited guests. On the following day, Saturday, November 15, the main theme of the first session will be “Battlefield Medicine.” We live in “interesting” and “difficult” times, and let us hope they never turn into dangerous ones. The role of the physician in such circumstances is exceptional, and whether we like it or not, we should deepen our knowledge of how to act in the face of disaster. For this session, we have invited competent speakers from “the front line.” Please come and listen to what they have to say – it will be worthwhile.
Other topics we plan to address include the increasingly frequent complications following RIRS procedures. RIRS is a very attractive and effective technique, which has now become a standard in urology. Like any procedure, however, RIRS is not free from complications – unfortunately, these are becoming more frequent, and sometimes irreversible. How to prevent and manage them will be the subject of discussion with experts during Saturday’s second session.
In the next session, we will cover issues of interest to urologists working in outpatient care – in other words, to all of us. Recurrent lower urinary tract infections, erectile dysfunction, and the increasingly common questions about the validity of testosterone supplementation are part of our daily practice. We will ask our invited speakers what each of us should know about these topics.
Dear Colleagues, the Symposium of the Northwestern Branch of the Polish Urological Association is not only about science, but also an opportunity to meet old friends and make new ones, a time for informal conversations in the corridors, a time to connect. In my opinion, it is important to build and maintain our shared, personal relationships. It makes work and life easier – even in difficult times, or perhaps especially in difficult times – if we want and are able to be together.
I warmly invite you to Bydgoszcz,
Dr hab. med. Piotr Jarzemski, prof. UMK
Honorary Member of the Polish Urological Association
